President Ranil Wickremesinghe inaugurated the much-anticipated Kompagngna Veediya flyover today (April 8th). The flyover spans the railway line, connecting Justice Akbar Mawatha and Uttarankanda Mawatha.
While the official opening ceremony marks a significant milestone, the project remains under construction. Completion of the entire project is expected by September 2024. The total project cost is estimated at Rs. 5,278,081,272.43.
The flyover is expected to significantly improve traffic flow in the busy commercial area of Kompagngna Veediya. The railway crossing has long been a bottleneck, causing delays of up to three hours daily. The area is home to a variety of institutions, including government offices, hospitals, religious sites, restaurants, and movie theaters.
The Road Development Authority is overseeing the project, with Maga Engineering Company carrying out the construction work. This aims to expedite completion and minimize further traffic disruptions.
