The Japanese government has announced plans to supply Sri Lanka with a vessel fitted with underwater sonar technology to enhance the country’s oceanographic survey capabilities. According to Japanese Deputy Press Secretary Kaneko Mariko, this decision was finalized recently.
During a bilateral discussion between Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Sri Lanka’s foreign minister on Saturday, Minister Kamikawa conveyed Japan’s intention to provide this specialized vessel equipped with sonar.
The vessel and sonar system, valued at approximately 01 billion Yen, will be provided to Sri Lanka by the Japanese government. This initiative underscores Japan’s commitment to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region and its support for Sri Lanka, strategically located along important sea lanes.
