Katunayaka, May 20 (The reporter) – A Pakistani woman who arrived from Abu Dhabi this morning was arrested by the Customs Narcotic Control Unit at the Katunayake International Airport (BIA) while attempting to smuggle into the country a stock of 2.450 kilograms of heroin.
The 57-year-old woman had arrived in the country under the pretext of a tourist.
Investigations revealed that the market value of the stock of heroin is estimated to be more than Rs. 73.5 million.
A spokesman for the Customs said that the stock of heroin had been hidden in a false bottom of the woman’s bag.
She was handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau officials in the airport for further action.
